Virtual Project

Overview

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is changing the way the construction industry worldwide does business. In the UK we are fortunate to have had the ‘push’ of the Government’s 2016 BIM Mandate, the accompanying standards, and the immense amount of information and support generated by the BIM Task Group and other organisations.

In the most recent NBS BIM Survey 54% of respondents claimed to be ‘aware of and currently using BIM’. But meeting the ‘2017 mandate’ is not just about software capabilities, it is about ‘fully collaborative BIM’ in our projects and this involves changing the way we work.
How is the Construction Industry going to absorb these changes and acquire these new skills? Can we experience working in ‘fully collaborative BIM’ in a safe training environment or must we adopt a trial and error approach and learn on the job, with all the risks and potential for costly mistakes that this entails?

Virtual Project is designed to meet that very need. It is an intensive 3-day course designed to allow participants to experience BIM in a real time collaborative environment and to explore the Level 2 BIM project process with none of the risks or costs that arise on a real project.
Using the most up-to-date and popular BIM software, and with the support of experienced trainers and excellent training materials, the course offers a real opportunity to experience multi-disciplinary project working in a common data environment: the very essence of Level 2 BIM.

Who Should Attend

The course opens with a series of positional lectures, discussion sessions and BIM case studies to contextualise the whole event. Drawing on the concepts detailed in the current UK BIM documentation, often referred to as the Eight Pillars of BIM, the role of the Common Data Environment (CDE), Employers Information Requirements (EIR) and the BIM Execution plan (BEP) are introduced, and the use of Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) data drops are explained and prepared. Depending on the availability of internet access, CDEs are accessed live as a means of sharing data, or in cases of poor internet connectivity this process is simulated by use of a central ‘console’ computer. From Stage 2 onwards the work is essentially ‘hands on’ with a range of proprietary software products being made available for delegates’ use.

Mentored Learning

The "myWay Mentored Learning” was created in response for more flexible learning schedules and focused content. It allows each student to progress in a manner that is most suitable for their skills set, knowledge and schedule that a fixed, lecture based approach does not allow for. You will be mentored on a one to one basis by a subject matter expert with continues practical exposure and focus on problem areas, allowing you to progress at your own pace and deciding what content requires more or less time.
